Guardians

Guardians

In 2012 we were inspired to introduce a new motif into our art practice. A climate emergency had been declared by the United Nations and scientists recognised that we had entered a new geological era on earth in which humans now made more impact on earth’s systems than any other species. They call this era the anthropocene.

We call the new human-like motif a guardian, because only humans can reverse the anthropogenic climate emergency. Guardians made in alpine locations from natural elements appeared first in the Watershed project and later in Antarctica and Dusky Sound.

The Guardians series of land art photographs won 1st prize in the Conceptual category in FAPA, the International Fine Art Awards. FAPA received almost 4000 submissions from 83 countries around the world and winners were selected by a panel of international judges. The second series entered was titled In Search of Synergy and was shortlisted as a nominee for the same category: Conceptual.
